Middle Grey
July 2014
In response to the photographic exhibition at Durban Art Gallery – “Photographs in Black and White: Margaret Bourke-White and the Dawn of Apartheid in South Africa”, the KZNSA’s Durban Centre for Photography (DCP) and DAG present a 5 day workshop for creatives and their cameras. This workshop is intended to use the photographic works of Margaret Bourke-White as a case study for looking, seeing and regarding one’s own subjectivity: how you look into your social, political and cultural identities and express these views with visual text.
Importantly the workshop asks: "How do I make photographs so that I can ask: Why do I have to make photographs?"
Facilitators: Peter McKenzie, Liza du Plessis, Paulo Menezes and Shirin Motala
